HIMSS Chooses Netilla for Browser-Based Secure Remote Access to Full Suite of Enterprise Applications

Leading Healthcare IT Professional Services Organization Can Now Access Full Range of Enterprise Data via Netilla Security Platform

SOMERSET, N.J. — Feb. 23, 2004 — Netilla Networks, Inc., a leading provider of SSL VPN and secure application access management solutions, today announced that the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) has selected the Netilla Security Platform to handle all of its secure remote access requirements. 

HIMSS, the healthcare industry’s premier professional organization focusing on the optimal use of healthcare information technology and management systems, has deployed the Netilla Security Platform at its Chicago headquarters. HIMSS is using Netilla to provide its executive management and IT staff with “anytime, anywhere” access, via standard Web browsers, to a full suite of applications, including client/server- and Web-based programs.

“As a diverse healthcare professional services organization that sponsors a full range of industry events, seminars and professional education programs, HIMSS has an unusually broad range of applications that our executives need to access – from anywhere,” said Jeremy Landfare, director of information technology, HIMSS. “After evaluating many vendors, we selected Netilla because of its ability to deliver all SSL VPN access types — thin client, Web and SSL tunnel — on a single platform.”

HIMSS is using the Netilla Security Platform to provide its staff with secure remote access to applications and files. HIMSS found Netilla’s unique thin-client access mode especially useful for enabling legacy applications such as Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and an SQL-based association management system to be accessible via any Web browser. Since HIMSS is a major producer of industry conferences, Netilla’s ability to provide remote access to an internal application for selling trade-show floor space was a definite plus.

In addition, Netilla provides HIMSS with secure access to Outlook Web Access and an Internet knowledge portal, both Web-based applications. And for applications already installed on authorized user’s PC, such as Microsoft Outlook, HIMSS employees can work off-line and then use the Netilla Virtual Adapter to sync up with central servers via an SSL-encrypted tunnel.

HIMSS has deployed the Netilla solution in combination with the RSA SecurID^® two-factor authentication solution. The RSA SecurID solution provides its users with the mobility and freedom to securely authenticate to the network from virtually anywhere with an Internet connection.

The solution included Microsoft terminal services, the Netilla Security Platform and RSA SecureID. Implementation was relatively quick due to the tight integration between the Netilla platform and RSA SecureID.
